The Story

John Duncan was looking for a job. He worked as a biologist in a

company nine years ago, but he left there. Because his wife was making boats

so he was helping to her and also she was a good sailor. They were selling the

boats to the people. They earned lots of money by selling them but one day in

a big storm, unfortunately, she died. Then they lost their money, and John
Duncan became a poor man. Because he sold his house and car. They were

sitting in the centre of the town, when they were rich. But after losing their

money, they moved to a flat which was very gloomy and untidy.

One day, John went to a paint factory, because they were looking for a

biologist. He took an appointment from secretary of the paint factory. The

employer was waiting for John Duncan.


He started to work in the paint factory as a biologist with Mary. After that

they tried to develop the paints which is using for cars together. John Duncan

had a new house near the river with a large garden. He bought a boat, too.

John and his children were very happy like in the past. Mary and John

developed a new a paint for cars. Neither acid nor salt water could damage it

was very great. The company earned lots of money from new paint. It had

brought four hundred new jobs to the town, too.

One day, when John was working with the new paint, he spilt some of

the waste products on his leg. He cleaned it off quickly, but it left a red painful

place on his skin. He went to a doctor. The doctor wrote medicine to put on his

skin. He said “put this, on night and morning then the pain will go in a day or

two. But the skin will have the red place for a year or two. After a while, he

went to factory to test the new paint.

A few months later, John invited Mary for a dinner in the new house. But

the night spent hard for John. Because the house was untidy and the foods

were bad. One day, Mary came again and they went to outside for sailing by

boat together. They sailed in the new boat along the river. Suddenly, they saw

the groups of seal families. They watched the seals. A few days later John

showed a new experiment to Mary in the paint factory. The experiment room

was at the back of the factory, It was full of animals. John was testing the new

paint over the rats. He was putting some products in their foods and water. The

baby rats borned without legs, eyes and ears. She said, “these certainly is a

problem !” John prepared a report of this. In the report he wrote all the things

and he wanted some machines which cleans the waste products. After

preparing this, he went to Mr. Wilson’s office. Mr. Wilson said to John “you

want some machines which cleans the wastes products. They are too

expensive, John. We can’t buy them, because they cost two million pounds”.

“But we have got to do it. These wastes products are much more dangerous

than I thought. We can’t put those chemicals in the river” said John.

 

“Just a minute, listen to me John! If we build these machines, people will

lose their jobs” said David. John went out from David Wilson’s office. Mary

talked to Mr. Wilson too, but it wasn’t good. After she had left his room she

was very sad. She decided to leave from David Wilson’s factory. She moved to

another city and she found a new job there.

Christine who is John’s daughter, met with Simon. Simon was a

journalist in a newspaper. He belonged to one of these environmental groups

which is called Green World. John didn’t want Christine to marry to Simon. But

Christine got married to Simon. One day in the Simon’s newspaper, there was

an essay about paint factory’s wastes products and dead seals. It was written,

dead seals on the sand-bank, were without eyes, ears and tails. Simon,

Christine and a few friends got on the boats to shoe that they were right. The

pipe of the factory killed the seals. While they were sailing, the wind blew hard

and the boat turned revenge. They fell into the river. Christine drank water from

river. It was dangerous for Christine’s child. John hasn’t known, that Christine

fell into the river and drank a lot of water.

 

He learned it when the Enquiry showed him the newspaper. He was very

surprised. Because it might be dangerous for her baby. The Enquiry asked

some questions to John Duncan and John replied them unlogically.

In the end David Wilson fired him from factory. He sold his beautiful

house and boat. He was an unemployed man again. He was alone, too. His

daughter didn’t speak with him during her life.
